Who am I? Where am I? What is my purpose?
I’m Jeremy Summerlin, and I’m your new favorite South Carolina Overtime Lawyer, I can already tell. I represent employees all over South Carolina in many types of employment-related legal issues, but I have a particular interest in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and how it affects South Carolina employees on a regular basis. Throughout this blog, I provide a variety of posts relating to new developments in overtime law, as well as offering simple and understandable explanations of the existing overtime law in South Carolina. I hope you enjoy. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
So who am I? I’m a proud South Carolina native, the greatest husband and father this blog has ever written about, a voracious reader, and an unapologetic Star Trek fanatic, sorry about that. I grew up in Taylors, in Greenville County, and I ultimately attended college at Bob Jones University. During high school and college, I worked as a manager at a local fast food restaurant, where I first heard about overtime pay, albeit in the context of, “Who the #&$% allowed Jeremy to work .345 hours of overtime last week?!?!?!” Times were tight, and my abs were flatter.
After I graduated from Bob Jones University in 2009, I spent a year interning at the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, where I gained a firm understanding of the exact type of non-exempt work I’d one day end up blogging about. No overtime allowed there either, so you’re welcome, Tax Payers of Greenville County.
I spent three years in Columbia, South Carolina attending law school at the University of South Carolina. During law school, I was on the editorial staff of a law journal and a team captain for USC’s mock trial team. Also, once, at a law school chili cook-off, I named our submission “Justice Antonin Chili-a,” to the everlasting respect of my classmates, probably.
After graduation and passing the bar exam, I moved back to Greenville and began practicing employment law. I’m now an active part of the employment law team at the Horton Law Firm, P.A. I represent employees throughout South Carolina on all types of employment matters, including (and here I’ll swing this back around) a special emphasis in overtime lawsuits under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
